Making a difference in the children’s lives

Lenasia is a residential area south of Soweto in Gauteng Province, South Africa; approximately 35 kilometers south of the Johannesburg central business district. This area has a lot of poverty.

From the 4th till the 8th of July 2011, the Church of the Nazarene in Lenasia held a ‘Bible Holiday Club’. Under the leadership of Pastors Vincent and Peter Naidoo, there were 40 volunteers who made a difference in the children’s lives. The Bible Holiday Club is run once a year for a week at the Shari Crest Primary School. They start off with about 400 children on the first day, and end with between 800 and 1000 children on the last day.

Children from the community and Lenasia surroundings are invited to attend, many being under privileged. Clothing collected from the church, as well as from Clothing 4 Children is given to children in need. Children are dressed from head to toe in warmer clothes in the very cold winter. The children also receive a cup of oats in the morning and a lunch pack later in the day with a warm cup of hot chocolate.

The children are also fed spiritually, the r12 campaign, available from Walk Thru the Bible was adapted  for children by one of the pastor’s daughters. They were also given memory verses to learn.

r12 is a relational profile of an authentic disciple, based on Romans 12. r12 is not about being religious, keeping rules, developing programs, church growth, self-actualisation or spiritual formula’s for success. It’s about taking inventory of your relationships and helping you find Biblical answers to five of the most important questions in life. Click HERE to read more about r12.
