Walk Thru the Bible hosted a Walk Thru the Old Testament Toolbox Training Event on the 6th February, 2011. The event was held at the Margate NG Church, and saw 20 eager children attending, each one keen on traversing through the Old Testament, and becoming versed in the people, places and events of the Old Testament.
The course was facilitated by Walk Thru the Bible’s Lynnette Stander, who has a deep-rooted passion for children’s ministry. This was clearly evidenced in the energetic, lively way in which she presented the material to the children present.
The children illustrating that it all began with Creation
The children were engaged through the use of stories, games and puzzles, all with the purpose of getting them to learn and retain the information while participating as a group.
The journey is a very interactive one, and fosters the use of imagination amongst the children, so that the information is kept fresh and a love for the Bible, the lessons contained therein, and a new commitment form the children to read the Bible and pray everyday.
Depicting the strength of Samson
While the course does away with the monotony of listening to a presenter droning on, and the inevitable note books and pens to jot down the information, the main objective is to see that the participants change on a much deeper plane, with the result that the children are well acquainted with the Old Testament, and are therefore able to relate to what they have learnt, and are able to place the lessons taught (in the Old Testament), in a contemporary context.
400 years of silence before the coming of Jesus Christ
This is a very effective approach as the children are able to see the Bible as relevant to their lives, and as a direct result, they are able to identify with the people and events, and are thus able to embrace the stories in the Old Testament while being able to contextualize these events in their own lives.
