Deloitte Pretoria held a very successful collection for clothing4children on the 7th of September 2012 at their Ashlea Garden offices. The event – in partnership with clothing4 children and turn the tide 4 children – saw 761 bags of clothing collected for the needy.
clothing4children (c4c), in partnership with turn the tide 4 children, were able to distribute the clothing – through thirteen different organizations and ministries – to the needy in various communities.

- “This is to express a sincere word of gratitude to the donors, for the 50 bags of clothing donated to vulnerable children at Compass-Point. We believe the clothes will change lives and bring hope to those that are less privileged. Many of the recipients included unemployed HIV+ mothers of small children, as well as grandmothers who had been left responsible for their grandchildren.”

- “We received 100 bags of clothing, shoes and linen for distribution in the Sharpeville community. Our Church Welfare Committee worked in collaboration with the local ward councillor in order to identify the poorest of the poor in the area – with a focus on child-headed households and households headed by grandparents. 84 families were identified and invited to come and receive clothes at the church. Here they were directed from stall to stall according to how the clothes had been sorted. Our thanks to all who gave towards this project.

- “We received 50 bags of clothing that were distributed in Matolies Ville Squatter Camp to people affected by HIV/Aids, the physically disabled and under-privileged. - The 50 bags of clothing we received were distributed to the needy children in the Tembelisha informal settlement. These children attend a wayside Sunday school operated by our church. The weekly attendance at this Sunday school is between 100 and 120 children. The excitement on the faces of these young children, when they were given the clothes, was a sight to behold. The distribution of the clothing brought cheer and real joy. We thank you for your kind donation of these clothes.

Christelike Maatskaplike Raad in Linden
- St Columbus Presbyterian Church received 67 bags of clothing which were distributed at outreaches to the homeless, to Marang House (a non-profit organization which provides a stable home environment to under- priviledged children with severe illness) and to Hospital Angels.
“On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff and children at Marang House we would like to thank you for the kind donation of clothing we received for our children. Marang House relies totally on donations and sponsors. Without this support we would not be able to provide the home and care that these children require.
At the moment we have nine children in the home. Three of the children have had kidney transplants, one has chronic renal failure and the other five have insulin dependent diabetes. We transport the children to and from Charlotte Maxeke Academic hospital daily for treatment and schooling.
Your eyes may not see their faces everyday as ours do, but your hearts have seen the need. Thank you for making a difference to South Africa’s seriously ill children.”

Hospital Angels is a project which provides clothing, nappies and other basic necessities to mothers of very ill, terminal or premature babies. Due to the nature of the illness, these are often families who are also facing financial strain. Below are just two of the babies who received clothing from what was collected at Deloitte and distributed by Hospital Angels.
29 bags of clothing were also given to King’s Hope Development Foundation – a community-based organisation which operates in Olievenhoutbosch Township and provides care for orphans, vulnerable children and people affected by HIV, TB and other chronic conditions.
In addition, clothing was also distributed by the following churches to vulnerable people in the communities which they serve:

- Pulamaliboho Ministries – Alexandra (50 bags)
- Christ the Rock Ministries – Dunnottair ( 50 bags)
- Mosaiek Church – Johannesburg (50 bags)
- Nehemiah Ministries Church of the Nazarene – Eldorado Park (100 bags)
- Lehae Christian Centre – Eikenhof (50 bags)
Thank you to every Deloitte employee who embraced this initiative – with some even roping in clients and neighbours to help collect clothes! Thank you to those who enthusiastically helped to load the mountain of clothing bags onto the trucks.
As one of the Deloitte managers so eloquently expressed: “A company cannot find meaning in profitability alone.”
