“We’re seeing the impact on individual children’s lives”

“Some of the children have started mentoring others and some have started bringing their younger siblings and parents to church.” ttt4c recently visited the Harvest Family Church SEED project in South Africa’s Kwazulu-Natal province. The aim of the visit was to evaluate the churches’ experience of the SEED strategy process from intake in 2007 to the final phase in 2010.

ttt4c met with Pastor Raleigh Perumal and Trico Chetty and Sandra who form the committee for the Aftercare programme.

A small team of Harvest Family Church members runs an Aftercare programme for 15 children from the Effingham Primary school which is situated in an informal settlement in north Durban.

The following was some of the feedback received from the Harvest Family Church:

– The ttt4c mentoring us to get started with a practical approach to helping children in the community. The training was helpful in directing us to develop a plan for the Aftercare programme.

– The funding received from ttt4c was crucial to starting up the programme

– We have started to see the impact on individual children’s lives – some have started mentoring others and some have started bringing their younger siblings and parents to church.

– As a result of the support from ttt4c we have also started to bridge the gap between the children at Harvest Family Church and the community – through their involvement in the Sunday School.

– Going forward the Harvest Family Church has decided to take over the payment of the Aftercare programme Supervisor’s salary. Individual members of the church have committed to providing funding or food. Every day the children are involved in preparing their own lunch, with donated food.

– Pray for smooth transition to new leaders. We want to grow the number of children coming to the Aftercare programme and we want to reach the parents and families of the children to have a more sustainable impact.

ttt4c is thrilled that the Harvest Family Church have taken their Aftercare programme to new heights during the three-year SEED strategy. After completion at the end of 2010, ttt4c will continue to provide the Harvest Family Church, along with similar churches, with training, equipping and networking opportunities.
