Earlier this year, MES Johannesburg received clothing from Clothing 4 Children. MES started in 1986 as a ‘street work and people centred’ outreach programme from the JHB East Dutch Reformed Church.
The MES soup kitchen operates daily between 11:00 and 13:00 at BG Alexander in Hillbrow. Approximately 120 homeless men, women and sometimes children arrive for a plate of hot food. Before serving the food, a meeting is held to tend to the spiritual needs of the people. The clothes were sorted into piles for men, women and children. The women and children had first choice to take three items each. Afterwards the men got their turn. “We limited the number of pieces per person to ensure that everybody got something”.
“Thanks again for this wonderful gift and for joining hands with us to change the heart of the city”.
