Children journeying thru the Old Testament

In an adjacent room to where the Walk Thru the Old Testament Toolbox Training event was being held on 30th January 2011, at the Northcliff Union Church in Johannesburg, a group of  9 children undertook the journey, and the joy on their faces was indescribable.
The content was presented by Lynnette Stander from Walk Thru the Bible, who has a deep rooted passionate for children’s ministry. The children clearly enjoyed the seminar, and interacted very energetically while taking the journey through the Old Testament.

The children practising hand movements for their journey through the Old Testament

There were no notebooks required as the children launched into an energy filled class which aims to voyage through the Old Testament while actively engaging the children through storytelling, games, puzzles and numerous other activities which allow the children to absorb and preserve the themes which are prevalent in the Old Testament.

The use of their imagination is encouraged, and the children use role playing activities to live the stories as set out in the Book. It  was truly amazing to see young children so keen on building a strong foundation with this course, and the re-enactment of the walls of Jericho falling, was truly inspiring.

The Walls of Jericho come tumbling down

Movements and gestures were used to link all the events, people and places in the Old Testament, and the children looked refreshed in their newly acquired Old Testament knowledge as they showed up the adults with their rendition of the stories from creation through to the precursor to the New Testament which is the four hundred years of silence before Jesus Christ.

The children illustrated their knowledge through hand movements and were quite polished in their demonstration of their journey through the Old Testament, to rapturous applause from the adults assembled in the Northcliff Union Church.

Bringing the journey to life

One can only surmise the positive effects such teachings can have on children today, and the fact that the course is presented in an interactive, energetic way, fills one with hope and comfort in the knowledge that the information will be retained and live in their memories for years to come.
